Pflugerville sits on blackland prairie clay, and that one fact drives most of what we do differently here. Clay swells when it is wet and shrinks when it is dry, and it moves enough over a Texas year to crack a shell and a deck that were not designed for it. It is also easier to dig than the limestone west of here, so the excavation is cheaper and the structure is where the money goes.
